7cb1d79195 Major Charles Rane comes back from the war and is given a number of gifts from his hometown because he is a war hero. Some greedy thugs decide that they want to steal a number of silver dollars from him. In the process they also manage to kill his wife and son and destroy his hand. The Major wants revenge so he enlists the help of his war buddy Johnny to meet the thugs in a final showdown. A returning war veteran loses his family to a violent home invasion and decides to seek and retaliate against those responsible. Rolling Thunder (1977) Is another one of those criminally little seen Film's from the seventies's that are increasingly HARD to come by, luckily i got mine off ebay on VHS,

William Devane,Star'sMajor Charle's Rane, Who return's home after been captive seven year's at the infamous 'Hanoi Hilton' He return's home to An ecstatic heroes's welcome, but upon coming home his wife is all set to marry a local cop, and even his young son doesn't remember him at all,

Devane is given a presentation by the local townspeople, He receives a new set of wheel's a shiny red Cadillac, and two thousand five hundred dollar's(and one for luck) The cash effectively is for each day he endured in 'Hanoi Hilton' Also he is also presented a 'Groupie' which in this case the local southern belle,(Linda Hayne's) who want's to show him a good time.

Upon returning home Devane, is set upon by some thug's from down Mexico way, who are after the cash, Devane refuse's to give in to the exact whereabout's of desired cash, and the thug's brutally beat him and in the film's now famous cult moment, shove the poor Major's hand in to the garbage disposal, thus rendering him in to a trance, unfortunately the Major's Wife And kid, drop in, tragically they are viciously blown away, Deavane then recuperate's and take's his prosthetic hook for hand to his tool shed for some sharpening, and take's off with Linda Hayne's down Mexico way, along the way he hook's up with Tommy Lee Jone's an old army buddy, together the pair set off for a Explosivley bloody climax that would make SAM Peckinpah, blush! To call this merely a "revenge flick" really doesn't touch upon the tawdry, somewhat sick, borders of society this movie moves through. William Devane plays the wronged man. Tommy Lee Jones has a small but excellent parta vaguely, but not quite, psycho co-veteran. Nowdays the phrase "crazed Vietnam veteran" probably does not resonate, but back in the day, these guys, particularly Tommy Lees portrayal, were it. The story has all the best plot devices:

Plot: buildup, reward, downfall, weapons prep, revenge.

Motivtation: hey, they're a-holes and they wronged him, that's all the "motiviation" that Mr. 12 guage pumpgun requires.

Location shots: a very very very very convincing Mexican whore house. Hooters are available.

Weapons: 12 guage and more. The denouement reminds me a lot of Taxi Driver, but X 2.

Homage: that's French for "rip off". There's at least one scene that I think has it's basis in a scene from the Western revenge flick _Nevada_Smigth_ (which I also recommend). Plus there's some disco death that is reminiscent of _The_Wild_Bunch_.

Check it out, it's dated, but worthy.
